- DiskSalv can help. First thing, you need to locate the partitions. In
- DiskSalv 2, you do this by calling up the "Custom" window, via the
- Project/Custom... menu item off the Input windows. In DS3, you call up
- the Analysis window via the magnifying glass gadget.
-
- Once you're up, you need to fill in a few details, like the exec
- device driver name, the unit number to search, etc. The range to
- search should be fairly large, but it's not critical to make it exact,
- you need to make sure you cover the areas where you might have
- partitions that are inaccessable.
-
- Run the Analyze function, and DiskSalv will build internal
- descriptions of any partition it finds. In DS2, you can save these to
- disk, in MountList/DOSDrivers compatible format, but selecting each of
- them and calling up the "Project/Save Device..." menu item. In DS3,
- this works too, but from the device editor (from the "pen & paper"
- gadget) you MAY be able to restore the RDB entry, depending on just
- how trashed the RDB is.
-
- To get your partitions mounted via the Mount command, you may have to
- edit the mount files you saved from DiskSalv. You're going to want to
- add the FileSystem line and perhaps a few other bits; DiskSalv's main
- concern is storing a proper geometry there. Once suitably defined, you
- can Mount the given devices and use them normally.
-
- If you have RDPrep (from Microbotics), you can often rebuild the RDB
- from these mount files as well. RDPrep, being a full blown RDB editor,
- is better at this than DiskSalv 3 in any case. It's the only one I
- know of that reads mountlist/DOSDrivers files.
